The Cottonwoods is a fictional landscape created with layers of found
oscilloscope recording papers form the Black Hole Surplus in Los Alamos,
NM. The Black Hole Surplus
was a grocery-sized thrift store from the collections of a former LANL
machinist and technician named Edward Grothus who worked there in the
1950s and ‘60s.
